Guler was seen aiming the gesture at Szoboszlai during Turkey's 3-0 win over Hungary, a result that saw them promoted to Nations League A. Szoboszlai replied to Guler's Instagram post after the game with "1088", a reference to the number of minutes Guler has played for Real Madrid this season.

The war of words did not end there, with Guler later posting a story on the platform in which he called Szoboszlai "a joke". The youngster had earlier scored the second goal in his side's impressive victory at the Puskas Arena.
